The world has gone through a lot of transition from it's inception and has had many historical periods from era of the dinosaurs to the Industrial Revolution and so many more. What is your favorite time period and why? I think mine is the Renaissance. It was such a romantic period with lots of art, culture and learning.

I have always found the rise of the Roman Empire period to be fascinating because the Romans really gave new meaning to the word "civilization" on so many levels.

Classical Greece-the era just before the Hellenistic period(around 500BC-lasting about 200 years). Beautiful art, conquest for the Greeks thanks to Alexander, not much racism-slaves yes, but no black-hate, democracy-for men anyway, and just before the Macedonians arrive and Greece begins to lose its power.

The 1920s. Mostly because they had a good sense of occasion, but also the artwork, music and overall culture of the period is just very attractive to me.

Myrddin, the 1920's were a great period of time for music, art and literature. I just absolutely love history. There is so much to learn about.

Have you ever watched a Jeeves and Wooster? It is a great show which takes place in the 20s - it really gives you the feel of the time a bit. It is based on the Jeeves Omnibus stories by P. D. Wodehouse.

  7. Jeeves and Wooster is brilliant! Love that series.

My favourite period is probably any time during the nineteenth-century; the literary world was teeming with great minds, skilled wordsmiths, and captivating imaginations.

Classical Greece must have been the greatest era of all. I can't think of any time period I've studied where so much genius and artistic creativity flourished in every way. Even the Romantics, following the revolutionary late 18th century, longed for a simpler, less complicated period and turned to Greek and Latin subjects as poetic inspiration.

I like to think of the time America was still ours. :>) Seriously though, English history has always fascinated me, Henry the VIII to be specific. I think I've talked about this one but the story of these times fascinate me.

Classical Greece is fascinating, but my favorite time period is NOW, warts and all.

Good question! I guess the 1800s. I like the furniture and architecture styles from back then. I also like the clothing from that time period, but the idea of wearing a corset is not too appealing.

Yes, I think that women who wore corsets must have learned not to breathe. (Paraphrased from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl)

That is one of my favorite British shows. I am a huge fan of Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie. I also loved them in the Blackadder series.
It is tough to pick my favorite historical period. I think though it would probably be the Middle Ages - the earlier part from around 800 a.d. to about 1483 when the Tudors came into power in England.

Wise Owl, I spent the weekend watching one of the Netflix series on Elizabeth I. When I was teaching, I never had time to watch movies. Finding an entire series I haven't seen before keeps me from going to bed these days. Henry VIII was one card indeed.

I like the way you think, RLynn. Technological advancements are becoming almost exponential. We can only imagine what our world will be like twenty years from now. And those warts are magnified by the 24/7 media. I love history but would not want to have been born at any other time.

I also like the Renaissance Period. I am fascinated with the architecture of that period, not to mention the advancements in culture such as literature and the arts. This period is also known for the contributions of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.

Mycenaean and Archaic periods of Ancient Greece. Also the Heroic Age, but I'm not sure it could be considered in a historical context.
