Although they mostly end tragically, what is your favorite mythological love story? There are so many, it is difficult to choose just one! I like the story of Apollo.
How about the story of Orpheus and Eurydice? This a sad and tragic myth. They had a happy life until she tragically died. Orpheus then tried to save her, unsuccessfully, from the underworld.
Where did the urban legend of Friday the 13th originate and why is bad luck associated with this date? Is it because of the movie or was the movie made because this legend existed?
I remember not being able to watch this movie when I was younger. I caught it on cable the other day and it did not seem that scary at all! I'm not a fan of this genre anyway!
I have always thought that is was primarily a new phenomena. The media needs to pit vampires against someone, werewolves are the perfect ones. I agree, however, that it is a bit strange how they make them get along in the movies/TV shows.
I have never played and don't think that I ever would! I have always been very afraid to try it and inadvertently uncover something that should be left alone!
I would have also enjoyed taking a course in mythology but my school offered none specifically on this topic. I have checked online and found some options. It is on my to do list for this year!
I must admit that I did enjoy the books. They were quick reads. The movies, however, left much to be desired. I just sat in the theater shaking my head because I could not believe I had to sit through 2 hours of cheesiness. I should have never seen the movies!
I became interested in mythology in high school as well. We had a project in my english class and I picked mythology because I figured it would be fun yet easy. I have been hooked since then!
It seems that movies about superheroes are made all of time. How about movies about mythological figure? Any good ones lately? Any that you know are in the pipe works?
I don't think I would name my children after mythological figures but I also agree that they make very good pet names! Maybe I'll name my next dog Zeus.
Who is your favorite God or Goddess? My favorite Goddess is Athena. She is the Goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill.
The only ritual I take part in is eating 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight. I believe this ritual originated in Spain. I like the idea of "letting go" by lighting a piece of paper on fire with these things written on them. Maybe I will incorporate that this year!
What a fun game! There are so many brands that use mythological names. I can think of a few: cyclops bikes, Helicon publishing, Hermes, Juno, Pandora jewelry, Orion pictures, Odyssey travel, Midas,
I love history as well but the only thing I collect is fairy art. I also collect books especially history books! I have them all arranged on my shelf by time periods.
I also envision all fairies as good and helpful souls. There are many different beliefs about how they came about. One belief is that they are dead souls. Another belief, although not as popular is that they are a unique being different from human or angel. A third belief is that they are...
I want to get a tattoo of a fairy on my back shoulder area. I am having trouble deciding on which one to get. Does anyone have any suggestions or pictures that I may take a look at?
I also like the Renaissance Period. I am fascinated with the architecture of that period, not to mention the advancements in culture such as literature and the arts. This period is also known for the contributions of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.
It is very true that we never learn the real truth about history in schools, especially grade school. Usually the truth about history is very ugly and does not always put us in a favorable light.
My favorite is the creation of the world. "In the beginning there was only chaos. Then out of the void appeared Erebus, the unknowable place where death dwells, and Night. All else was empty, silent, endless, darkness. Then somehow Love was born bringing a start of order. From Love came Light...
