How were you introduced to mythology?

Just out of curiousity, how were you all introduced to mythology? We had Greek and Roman mythology as part of our history of the world classes in high school. We read Bulfinch's Mythology which I believe are Greek but I may be wrong about that. So how were you introduced to mythology?

I watched The Mighty Hercules cartoon as a kid and I wanted to know more about the myths behind it.

My parents bought me Childcraft Set when I was still little. The first book is for stories and myths so that is how I was introduced to myths. I also watched cartoons in those days so that made me love myths.

Yes, Bulfinch's Mythology part one (the Age of Fable), is mostly Greek myths.
I visited a friend when I was a kid(I don't remember how old I was). He had a poster of a huge muscular man hurtling a thunderbolt at the city he was trampling.
I asked "Who's that?"
He said "Zeus."
"Who's Zeus?"
"A god." he said.
For some reason that image mesmerized me. I don't know if it had something to do with the feeling of power it resonated.
I have been hooked ever since.

I've always loved fairy tales and legends as a child. When I took college literature I found myth. My boyfriend bought me a copy of "The Power of Myth" and that's where I got sucked into Hinduism and Indian culture. I went into Celtic, Norse, Greek, and Egyptian from there. I was going through a phase of researching matriarchal and matrilineal history and came across stuff I had never thought about, that helped me get into myth too. (and I was doing that before the internet!)

I read a lot of books when I was younger and this was a topic that had me enthralled. My Mom eventually bought me a huge book about mythology and I spent hours reading and learning what I could. I wish I had that book with me, it's still at my parents' house. It would be nice for a re-read. :)

I remember vaguely something random in school and to this day I am not sure what sparked the intial thought but I do remember it was an awesome teacher. I guess at this age my memory is starting to fail me.

Well I was first introduced to it by the Disney Hercules movie when I was 9 and I read more and more about them as I grew up. But if I remember correctly, I only became very interested in Mythology after we took up Homer for a Classical Literature course in my first year of college.

We are all told fairytales as children of course and as a high school student I was taught Greek mythology in history classes. I was hooked right away and have been digging for information ever since.

I was introduced in my late 20's by a friend. I never paid any attention in school, so it is a whole new fantastical world for me!

I was also introduced to mythology in high school. The imagery was so intense, add to that the magical powers, and sprinkle in the folklore - who could resist? Afterall, it isn't everyday you hear of someone whose hair was turned into snakes, and could turn people into stone with just a glance.

My older sister was doing a report on Greek Myth when we were in elementary school and she hated it. She was assigned to read Edith Hamilton's Mythology. When she finished with the assignment I read it and loved it. When I got to college I started taking Greek and Roman Myth courses and thought they were great; Edith Hamilton hooked me, but I fell in love with Ovid that first semester.

In my early childhood, my grandpa used to read me various mythological tales from a collection called "Mythology for kids" or something similar... After that, in school I became really interested in Greek and Celtic mythology. I remember reading most of the books on Greek legends during middle school. The mythology-based cartoons were also a fun activity of my childhood.

I was first introduced to Greek Mythology in middle school. Later on we had a little brush with it in high school during world history. I was glad that they had interesting books about it in the school library. I am always first in line when a movie that has anything to do with gods comes out.

I was about 6 or 7 years old when we had a teacher who introduced us to the Roman Gods at first as a way of telling us about the planets in the solar system. This followed onto their Greek equivalents and then onto the stories. I was hooked from then on.

I was introduced to mythology in high school when I had an English teacher who incorporated Greek myth into our studies. After that, I became interested in the larger realm of Classical mythology. Since then I became hooked, and continued myth studies into college where I was introduced to the stories of the Norse. Celtic myth followed.

First by my father: Greek and Roman myths. I also studied bits and snippets through out my high school years as regards the Greek and Roman, it wasn't until a teen that I first encountered Norse myth, and that's funny because I'm norse!
